What dissolved acetylene is, and why the grade matters
Acetylene burns hotter in oxygen than any other commercial fuel gas, which is what makes an oxy acetylene flame the tool of choice for cutting, brazing and heating heavy section steel. That performance comes from an unstable molecule, and the way it is packaged reflects that.
Acetylene is never simply compressed. The cylinder is filled with a porous mass soaked in solvent, and the gas is dissolved into that solvent rather than stored as free gas, which is why the product is called dissolved acetylene and why a cylinder must stand upright long enough to settle before use. Draw it too fast and you pull solvent out with the gas.

Acetylene is highly flammable and forms an explosive mixture with air across a very wide range. Always use a flashback arrestor, keep cylinders upright in use and in storage, allow a cylinder that has been laid down to stand before drawing from it, and never exceed the withdrawal rate for the cylinder. Store separately from oxygen.

Why must acetylene cylinders stay upright?The gas is dissolved in solvent held in a porous mass inside the cylinder. Standing it upright keeps the solvent where it belongs, so you draw gas rather than solvent. A cylinder that has been transported lying down should stand before use.
Do you supply acetylene and oxygen together?Yes, most cutting and welding customers take both on the same delivery, which keeps one schedule instead of two.
What cylinder sizes is acetylene available in?Sizes are confirmed per order, since the right cylinder depends on your withdrawal rate as well as your consumption.
